Al-Bar "ah" is a Bedouin musical tradition in the Zofal Mountains in southern Oman. Its dances imitate combat forms, accompanied by drums and chanted poems in the dialects of local tribes. Ten to thirty men and women formed a half circle during the performance of Abar. As they clapped their hands while singing, two male dancers held a dagger called khanjars, performed the prescribed dance routine and waved the dagger on their shoulders. Dancers'steps are relatively simple, but it takes considerable skill to coordinate with other performers and music. Each tribe has its own Abar, and the rhythm and dance movements of their drums vary. The accompanying instruments are drums called Al-Ckasir, Al-rahmni and Ad-daff, and flutes called Al-qassaba. Dance performances are performed outdoors, mainly on weddings, circumcision and religious festivals. Abar dances are similar to other Oman Bedouin dances. They do not pay attention to class differences or other differences. Tribal leaders and people of low status can also perform together. It is a tradition that symbolizes the chivalrous spirit, strength, courage, generosity and hospitality of Bedouins. The traditional poetic themes of dance also include love and temptation. In Zofal, many people took part in the dance to ensure that Abar's poetry and practice could continue.
