Hikaya in Palestine is an oral form, inherited orally by generations of women. The story is fictional, but it is aimed at Arab society and family problems in the Middle East. Hikaye criticizes the society from a female perspective, outlines the social structure of Palestine and touches directly on women's lives. The main conflict in the story comes from women's struggle between responsibility and desire.

People usually tell about Hicaye in their homes on winter nights. The gathering was a spontaneous gathering of mothers and children. Men rarely participate because male participation is considered inappropriate. The charm of narration lies in the use of voice and the colloquialization of expression, which can catch the attention of the audience and successfully bring them into the magical world of imagination. Skills and styles mature with age. Its style follows the conventional language and literature, which is different from other forms of folk oral tradition. The spoken idioms used by Hicaye are different from those used in ordinary dialogues. This folktale will not last until late at night. The length depends on the audience and the atmosphere. The key is whether the narrator can immerse the audience in it. The story is told in Palestinian dialect (Farayi rural dialect or Madani urban dialect). Almost every woman over 70 years old is the narrator of Hicaye and the main inheritor of this tradition. However, it is not unusual for girls or teenage boys to talk about Hikaye for practice or pleasure.
