Voodoo, a long flute of three sound holes played by a Slovak shepherd. It is considered to be an integral part of the complete Slovak traditional culture. The main part of the flute is 160 to 200 cm long and is connected to a slightly shorter protrusion of 50 to 80 cm, which allows the airflow to pass through and reach a wide bass portion. This instrument has a special rough sound, which is mainly used for calling. This melancholy, fanciful form of expression is based on the content of the song, which is related to the daily life and work of the herdsmen and their struggle for freedom and rights. Voodoo's repertoire is based on melodies determined by acoustic technology, such as the sound of streams, the gurgling sound of running water, and other sounds of nature imitated by Voodoo. Voodoo is not only an instrument, refined personalized decorations, giving it a high artistic value. In the 19th century and 20th century, Voodoo was known for its value beyond the use of shepherds. During the festive celebrations, the instrument was played by musicians in the Podpol Anie area and was recognized and welcomed throughout Slovakia. The instrument is played on a variety of occasions throughout the year, but mainly from spring to autumn, played by shepherds and professional musicians, in cities such as Detiva.
