Songkran, also known as the Water Festival, is Thailand's traditional New Year, celebrated annually from April 13 to 15. During this period, people return home to reunite with family and perform blessings through rituals such as offering water to elders, bathing the Buddha at temples, and building sand stupas. The water-splashing tradition has evolved into a popular street celebration beloved by tourists, symbolizing the washing away of misfortune and the ushering in of a new year. This festival is filled with joy and ceremonial significance, where people observe fasting, perform good deeds, purify themselves through bathing, and splash water on each other as a blessing. Additionally, honoring elders, releasing animals, and engaging in singing, dancing, and games are essential activities. During this festival, Thais express an intense love for the New Year atmosphere, celebrating not only Chinese New Year but also Western New Year. However, for Thais, the true commencement of the New Year begins with the three-day "Songkran" festival starting on April 13. Notably, the term "Songkran" originates from Sanskrit, signifying the spirit of "transition" or "moving forward." During the Water Festival, scenes of Thais devoutly worshiping the Songkran goddess can be seen everywhere.
